CANDIDATE SELECTION CRITERIA AND PROCESS
The purpose of the Leadership Mohawk Valley Program is to identify leaders for our communities, broaden their perspectives, and confront the issues at large. Leadership Mohawk Valley “Develops Leaders Dedicated to our Community’s Growth and Excellence”. Desirable characteristics of leadership candidates include:

LEADERSHIP ABILITY: This may be demonstrated by the position which an individual holds within a business, community or civic organization.

COMMITMENT TO PROGRAM:
The candidate and employer must be willing to make the time commitment to attend all program days for the duration of the program. Orientation weekend is mandatory.

STABILITY IN COMMUNITY:
It is important that the candidate has a high likelihood of remaining in the community for at least several years.

EXEMPLARY CHARACTER:
Candidates should have a positive attitude towards the community and project the type of character desirable in leaders.
A screening committee will review each application and determine the ability of each candidate to meet the criteria outlined. In addition to these characteristics, an attempt will be made to choose candidates from varied backgrounds in terms of geography, industry, and community not-for-profit organizations. While a “quota” system will not be employed, it is believed that a balance in backgrounds will produce a broader representation and improve the program dynamics.
Payment may be by the employer, or self-financed. A limited number of partial scholarships will also be available based on need. If you wish to be considered for a partial scholarship, please contact LMV

An effective gauge of a community’s health and well being is the volunteer and civic contributions made by its leaders…those people who serve on boards and commissions, work with community groups, and serve as elected officials. These citizen leaders must be nurtured and provided with tools that enable them to be successful and inspires their commitment to community. The Mohawk Valley’s future depends on a sustainable and renewable source for leadership. This is the role and responsibility of Leadership Mohawk Valley.

What is Leadership Mohawk Valley? For one day a month, participants meet to learn in-depth and hands-on about vital aspects of the regional community. We are a resource from which civic, cultural, philanthropic and other organizations draw their leaders, and from which progressive businesses can identify managers able to utilize regional infrastructures. We are an incubator for community issues awareness, leadership skills and networking.

The program analyzes major areas of community concern, provides opportunities for open dialogue between leaders with diverse perspectives, examines leadership styles, and promotes a network of community trustees committed to the greater good. All programs are planned and delivered by teams of LMV graduates who each bring their special expertise to the issues being explored.

A class of 30 or more participants is selected annually. It is composed of an accomplished group of men and women who reflect the diversity of the Mohawk Valley region. LMV is a highly structured 10-month program that follows the schedule of a typical school year. The year begins in September with a one and a half day Orientation. From October through June, participants attend monthly, daylong focused programs designed to give them exposure and perspective in a variety of areas. All sessions are designed to be highly interactive, educational and thought provoking. Participants share their unique experiences and learn from one another. The participants are also teamed with fellow members in smaller project groups to gain practical experience in working together.

Applications will be accepted starting up to 6 months prior to the program year. (see deadline)
